In a significant development, five out of the six Al-Kadriyar sisters, who were kidnapped from the Bwari area of Abuja in early January, have been successfully rescued. The disclosure was made by Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as reported by Gatekeepers News.
The sisters regained their freedom around midnight on Saturday, and their release was the result of the coordinated efforts of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command Anti-Kidnapping squad and Nigerian Army troops. They were rescued from the Kajuru forest in Kaduna state.

In a statement, Adeh said, “Following the relentless advancement of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command Anti-Kidnapping squad in a concerted effort with troops of the Nigerian Army, on the heels of the kidnappers that struck the Zuma 1 area in the Bwari Area Council on the 2nd of January 2024, the FCT Police has rescued the victims and reunited them with their families.”
The successful rescue operation took place at approximately 11:30 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024, around Kajuru forest in Kaduna state.
The statement expressed gratitude to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Egbetokun for deploying the newly commissioned Special Intervention Squad, which contributed to boosting the security architecture of the FCT and instilling public confidence. Commissioner of Police for FCT Command, CP Haruna G. Garba, reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining robust security deployments in the area and other parts of the territory for the overall maintenance of peace.
It was previously reported that the sisters, along with their father and other community residents, were abducted. The father was released immediately, presumably to arrange for ransom payment, and the kidnappers had set a deadline for the payment.
Tragically, recent news confirmed the death of one of the sisters, Nabeeha, at the hands of the abductors. The rescue of the remaining five sisters brings a glimmer of hope amidst the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding the abduction.
