Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been charged by British police with bribery offenses. It is alleged that she accepted bribes in exchange for awarding multi-million-pound oil and gas contracts. She served as the petroleum resources minister in Nigeria from 2010 to 2015 and also held the position of president of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
Diezani Alison-Madueke is accused of benefiting from cash, chauffeur-driven cars, private jet flights, luxury family vacations, and London properties. Charges include financial rewards for property expenses, private school fees, and luxury gifts from high-end designer shops. She currently resides in St John’s Wood, West London.
She is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 2, 2023. Diezani Alison-Madueke has faced numerous corruption allegations since leaving office, but she denies the charges.
In the past, Nigerian courts have also ordered the forfeiture of properties and luxury cars belonging to her due to alleged corrupt practices.
