Demonstrators clashed with security personnel outside the national headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) shortly before the inauguration of new zonal officers of the party’s National Working Committee.
The protesters engaged with stern-looking policemen in a heated exchange after being denied entry to the secretariat.
This incident follows the election of zonal officers of the NWC, which was announced by the National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
Basiru stated that the election of new officers was in accordance with the mandate given to them by the National Executive Committee during the recent meeting at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on August 3.

The changes included the replacement of outgoing National Deputy Chairman for North, Senator Abubakar Kyari, by Ali Dalori, the Borno party chairman. Dr. Mary Idele from Edo State, founder of Sister-To-Sister Empowerment Worldwide, was elected as the new National Women Leader, succeeding Dr. Betta Edu.
