In a surprise move, President Bola Tinubu has announced the immediate removal of Chief Executive Officers from three critical agencies within the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy. The decision was revealed on Wednesday through a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
The affected CEOs include Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, who headed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC); Sunday Adepoju, who led the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST); and Tukur Funtua, who was at the helm of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited.
In their place, President Tinubu has appointed a new leadership team to steer the course of these vital agencies. Aminu Maida is set to take the reins as the Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the NCC. Nkechi Egerton-Idehen will be the new Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT, and Tola Odeyemi is appointed as the Postmaster General of NIPOST.
However, it’s not all change, as the President has decided to reappoint Kashifu Abdullahi as the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Dr. Vincent Olatunji as the National Commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
Additionally, President Tinubu has given the green light for a new Special Adviser on Technology and Digital Economy, Idris Alubankudi. This appointment aims to harness Nigeria’s technological and digital economic expertise to enhance financial inclusion and reposition the nation’s economy.
This reshuffling of leadership within the Nigerian communications sector is poised to have a significant impact on the nation’s digital landscape and its future economic prospects. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
