The governorship candidate of the Accord Party for the upcoming November 11 election in Kogi State, former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Jibrin Usman (retd), has made a commitment to address the persistent issue of flooding in the state if elected as governor.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Lokoja, the state capital, Usman emphasized that tackling the problem of flooding is a collective responsibility that should involve all citizens. He recognized that the recurring problem of floods affects everyone in the state and must be confronted decisively.
Expressing empathy for the flood victims, Usman pledged that, under his leadership, the issue of flooding would be resolved, and measures to prevent future floods would be a top priority. He mentioned initiatives such as the construction of embankments and the relocation of people living in flood-prone areas to higher ground as key strategies to mitigate flooding.
Furthermore, Usman highlighted plans for infrastructure development, including the construction of a coastal road connecting Ibaji Local Government in Kogi State to Onitsha in Anambra State. This road project aims to facilitate smoother vehicular movement within Kogi State.
