Renowned Yoruba actor Adewale Alebiosu has challenged the notion that actors in the film industry receive substantial compensation for their work. His response comes in light of a video posted by actress Jaiye Kuti on Instagram, where she criticized veteran actors for resorting to online begging.
Kuti, while cautioning her older colleagues against tarnishing the reputation of the Yoruba film industry, accused them of neglecting to plan for their future during their prime years.
In a widely circulated online video, Alebiosu refuted the accusations and asserted that actors often face inadequate payment. To support his claim, he shared a personal experience that left a lasting impact on him.
“I was given a mere N3,000 for 11 scenes. I boarded a bus and cried uncontrollably until I reached home,” he said. Alebiosu further revealed that it was just a few days before Christmas, and he had expected the role to provide enough income to support his family. Unfortunately, the reality turned out to be quite different for him.
