“Additional Arrests Made for Booing Kano Emir, Police Say”

The Kano State police command made significant strides on Saturday, apprehending three more individuals who were reportedly involved in chanting provocative slogans against the esteemed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero. This series of disruptive actions had triggered a breach of peace in the state, prompting swift action from law enforcement.

With these recent arrests, the tally of apprehensions climbs to nine, following the earlier detainment of six suspects. As reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, Commissioner of Police Mr. Usaini Gumel shared these developments in a statement on Saturday in Kano.

Employing advanced technical resources, the ongoing investigation has led to the identification and capture of an additional trio of suspects. The names of the newly arrested individuals are Abdulrazak Usman Sarki (36) from Disu Quarters, Gwale LGA; Fatihu Muktar Faruk (35) from Emir’s Palace Kano; and Usman Baba Attah (25) from Kabara Quarters, Kano Municipal LGA.

Gumel illuminated the incident, explaining that the suspects created public disturbance during the inauguration of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital at Kofar Kudu in the Municipal LGA. Their provocative slogans, chanted against the attending emir, marred the otherwise peaceful gathering.

These incendiary slogans included phrases like ‘New governor, new emir,’ as the suspects advocated for the replacement of Emir Bayero by Governor Abba Yusuf, citing the transition of governmental power as their rationale.

Commissioner Gumel sternly underlined the significance of respecting the traditional institution. He declared, “Any individual or entity attempting to belittle it will face the consequences of their actions under the law, regardless of their standing.”

Reiterating their commitment to maintaining security, peace, and stability within the state, the police command called on residents to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station, ensuring swift action and protection for the community.
