Adeleke Endorses N25,000 Wage Increase for Osun Workers and Pensioners

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has sanctioned a financial relief measure in response to the adverse impacts of the fuel subsidy removal. Each worker in the state is set to receive a monthly award of N15,000, while pensioners will be granted N10,000, according to a circular issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Human Resources and Capacity Building, Olugbenga Fadele.

This wage award is scheduled to run for six months, commencing from December. The decision reflects Adeleke’s ongoing commitment to the well-being of the state’s workforce and aligns with his promise to gradually implement palliative measures to mitigate the effects of the subsidy removal.

A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, emphasized that the gesture follows negotiations with labor representatives in Osun State, including the Nigeria Union of Pensioners. The circular stated, “The Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has approved the monthly payment of N15,000 to each active worker and N10,000 to each pensioner in Osun state as palliatives to assuage the pains being experienced as a result of removal of petroleum subsidy by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The payment, as approved, is to commence from the month of December 2023 for a period of six months.”

The governor expressed appreciation for the understanding of Osun state workers and pensioners, acknowledging their patience and support for the state government’s efforts to significantly enhance their welfare. The statement also anticipated that this government gesture would inspire increased diligence and commitment among the state’s workforce.
