Laolu Akande, former spokesman for ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has advised former President Olusegun Obasanjo to avoid mocking other presidents when discussing Nigeria’s challenges. Akande’s statement, shared on his X handle, was in response to Obasanjo’s remarks at a Yale University lecture, where he criticized Nigeria’s current state under recent leaders.
Obasanjo had lamented Nigeria’s decline, attributing it to widespread corruption, mismanagement, and poor governance, which he claimed are evident to all. While agreeing that Nigeria faces significant leadership issues, Akande emphasized that former leaders should contribute more constructively to the conversation.
Akande highlighted the need to address underlying issues fueling Nigeria’s leadership crisis. He urged former presidents to offer solutions rather than criticisms, as Nigeria’s complex challenges require thoughtful engagement from all statesmen.
