Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has issued a directive for the relocation of Chinese firm Golden Tripod Limited, situated on Ikot Ekpene Road in Uyo, to the Ibom Industrial Park in Itam, Itu Local Government Area of the state. The Governor also instructed the Commissioners of Environment and Internal Security to conduct an investigation into the company’s operations and submit a report within 48 hours.
During the inauguration of the 2.2km Tabernacle Road project off Ikot Ekpene Road, the Governor emphasized that it is inappropriate to establish factories within city centers. Reports indicated that the factory emitted significant pollutants.
Governor Eno instructed, “Commissioner for Environment and Commissioner for Internal Security, I want to have a report on what this factory manufactures in the next 48 hours… Please first of all find out what they do and immediately relocate them to the industrial park.”
The Governor urged investors to take advantage of the industrial park and assured them of a conducive environment. He outlined plans for the park, including fencing, the presence of a police station, a power station, and water supply.
Regarding the Tabernacle Road project, Governor Eno highlighted its significance in benefiting the rural and less privileged residents. The project involves both road construction and flood mitigation efforts, aiming to provide relief to Uyo and Itu LGAs.
The Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga, emphasized that the road project includes substantial drainage work to prevent flooding. He assured that contractors would adhere to government specifications.
