Akwa-Ibom State Launches Health Insurance Agency, Focuses on Healthcare Expansion

Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State – Governor Umo Eno has inaugurated a new health insurance agency aimed at ensuring comprehensive healthcare coverage for state workers and residents. During the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, Governor Umo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services across the state.

Governor Umo emphasized the agency’s role in making healthcare “readily available, accessible, and affordable” for all citizens of Akwa-Ibom State. He announced the procurement of six ambulances to improve emergency response capabilities, aligning with his administration’s ARISE Agenda to foster a healthy and educated workforce. The initiative includes establishing modern primary healthcare centers, with the first model center already operational in Ikot Nkwo.

In his address, Governor Umo charged the newly appointed 15-member board of the health insurance agency to collaborate closely with citizens to reduce diseases and enhance healthcare delivery. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing healthcare challenges, highlighting the recruitment of 400 medical personnel and 100 health and safety officers. Governor Umo also announced plans to build additional healthcare centers across communities to ensure equitable access to efficient healthcare services for all residents.

The state government’s recent release of ₦4.755 billion for pension and gratuities underscores its dedication to improving the welfare of retired civil servants in Akwa-Ibom State, demonstrating ongoing efforts to enhance social welfare alongside healthcare advancements.
