Akwa Ibom to build new teaching hospital

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has unveiled his administration’s plan to establish a teaching hospital in the state. The hospital will be located in Onna Local Government Area.

Governor Eno said that the new teaching hospital will complement the services of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), and that he hopes it will provide respite for doctors who are currently overworked.

The governor also said that his administration has improved healthcare services in the state by revamping the primary healthcare sector.

The Chief Medical Director of UUTH, Prof Emem Bassey, commended Governor Eno for the priority he has given to the health sector in his A.R.I.S.E. Agenda blueprint. He also expressed optimism that the governor’s experience as a successful entrepreneur will be beneficial in piloting the state’s affairs to more gains.

Prof Bassey listed some of the challenges facing UUTH as a dearth of infrastructure, power generation, inadequate manpower, and poor funding. However, he also highlighted some of the hospital’s achievements, such as the renovation and construction of new buildings, the setting up of an accident and emergency unit, and improvements in service delivery.

Overall, the article is a positive one, reporting on the governor’s commitment to improving healthcare in Akwa Ibom State. The establishment of a new teaching hospital is a significant development, and it will be interesting to see how it progresses in the coming months and years.tunesharemore_vert
