Hundreds of loyalists of former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, who hail from all 20 local government areas of the state, have made a significant return to the mainstream of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun. This development took place during a reconciliation meeting where the returnees, led by Chief Derin Adebiyi, the factional chairman of the Amosun-led party, were warmly received by Governor Abiodun at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta.
For approximately five years, a bitter feud had persisted between the factions, causing a deep divide within the Ogun State APC. Various attempts to reconcile the opposing sides had failed to yield positive results.
Hints of a potential reconciliation had emerged earlier, as indicated in a Facebook post by the State APC Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye.
During the reconciliation event, Governor Abiodun praised the returnees for their unwavering loyalty and commitment to their beliefs. He emphasized the importance of loyalty and unity within the party, highlighting that loyalty should be upheld, even in challenging times. The governor emphasized the need for members to respect party leadership and to prioritize the collective objectives of the party over individual ambitions.
Governor Abiodun made it clear that within a state’s APC, there can only be one leader, and that leader is the state’s governor. He urged all members to set aside past differences and work together to strengthen the party and contribute to the socio-economic development of the state.
The Chairman of the state APC, Chief Yemi Sanusi, also called on the returning members to fully integrate themselves with the rest of the party, fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation.
The reconciliation marks a significant step toward healing the divisions within the Ogun State APC and creating a more cohesive and united party structure.
