Ifeanyi Ezenwankwo, a middle-aged man from Nanka village in the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, is being held by police at the moment after reportedly inflicting body injuries on his wife, Ekwutosi, and burying a newborn child in a shallow grave.
According to reports, Ezenwankwo buried the infant to hide his unlawful behavior with a 16-year-old girl who later became pregnant for him.
Ekwutosi, the wife and a native of the Agbiligba Nanka village, claimed that she was injured after raising the alarm when she returned home to see her husband burying the newborn child.
This information was released to the media on Thursday in a press release from Chidinmma Ikeanyionwu, the media assistant to Ify Obinabo, the commissioner for women’s affairs and social welfare in the Anambra State.
Ikeanyionwu claimed that after the ministry was made aware of the situation, security personnel quickly apprehended the offender and freed the wife.
A woman from Agbiligba Nanka named Ekwutosi Ezenwankwo was rescued from her allegedly ritualist husband Ifeanyi Ezenwankwo after she refused to support his illegal activities, according to the statement.
“According to the woman, the husband, who is also a resident of Nanka, constantly has the habit of getting pregnant and then aborting the pregnancies with one 16-year-old girl, but he ran out of luck when the same 16-year-old got pregnant again and the pregnancy could not be terminated.The offender’s wife claimed that trouble began when she returned home from somewhere she had been and saw her husband and the 16-year-old girl burying the newborn. When she raised the alarm, the husband viciously attacked her and injured her as well as her children.
“The woman said that she had earlier seen what her husband and the young girl were doing and had immediately cautioned that nothing should happen to the unborn child, a scenario, she said, prompted the husband hide the girl in his rooms.
She also disclosed that her husband had often threatened to kill her, claiming that this was a regular occurrence. She cited instances in which neighbors had saved her from her husband whenever he tried to silence her.
“When asked what caused the problem, Ekwutosi responded that it began when the husband wed another woman and that since then, he hasn’t been contributing to the maintenance and welfare of the kids.”
The notification further mentioned that the offender had been detained by police and was being held while investigations were being conducted.
