The Anambra State Police Command has successfully foiled a criminal gang and made a significant recovery of weapons and a luxury vehicle. The police-led Forward Operating Base at Aguata played a pivotal role in busting the gang.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation unfolded on August 3 at around 8:30 p.m. when the police patrol team on the Uga-Ezinifite expressway spotted a Mercedes Benz SUV speeding by. Sensing that the occupants might be kidnappers with a potential abductee, the team sprang into action and pursued the vehicle.
After several kilometers, the police found the wine-colored Mercedes GLK 350 4matic SUV abandoned in a ditch, devoid of any occupants. However, the discovery within the vehicle sent shivers down their spines. They stumbled upon clothes soaked in blood, as well as two pump-action guns and a menacing machete.
The recovered vehicle, with registration number ENU 484 JV, was promptly secured and deposited at the Area Command Headquarters in Uga for safekeeping.
Commending the Joint Security Team for their vigilance and swift response, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Owolabi Adeoye, expressed appreciation for the successful operation. He ordered an immediate and thorough investigation to trace the vehicle’s owner and unravel the circumstances surrounding the recovery of the arms and offensive weapons abandoned by the fleeing criminals.
The police’s diligence in apprehending the criminal gang and securing dangerous weapons off the streets has undoubtedly bolstered the safety and security of the residents in Anambra State. As the investigation unfolds, authorities remain vigilant, determined to maintain law and order, and ensure the safety of all citizens.
