The Anti-Kidnap Squad of the Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with local vigilantes, has successfully dismantled a kidnapping gang in Nnewi Ichi, located in the Nnewi-North Local Government Area of the state.
According to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesman, the squad, while on patrol alongside vigilante members, received information about the whereabouts of the kidnappers and promptly raided their hideout on Wednesday.
During the operation, a kidnapped victim was rescued from the hideout and immediately transported to a hospital in Nnewi for medical treatment.
The police also arrested one of the suspected kidnappers and seized one pump-action gun and two locally fabricated hand grenades from the hideout.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, commended the effective collaboration between police operatives and local vigilante teams in combating criminal elements. He encouraged them to continue their efforts to reduce crime to the lowest possible level, ensuring the safety of the public.
CP Adeoye also expressed appreciation for the Anambra State judiciary’s recognition of its responsibility to society. He noted that the challenge in the past had been the ease with which crime suspects returned to society and committed further offenses while previous trials were still ongoing. With the cooperation of critical stakeholders, he expressed confidence that the fight against crime would be successful, making Anambra State an attractive investment destination.
