The Anambra State Police Command announced the arrest of Ozo Nweke, who is accused of sponsoring a nude women’s demonstration in Awka.
The protestors, who included men and women from Enugwu-Agidi in Anambra State’s Njikoka Local Government region, demonstrated in Awka last Tuesday against the community’s ongoing cult-related deaths and accused two police officers of assisting and abetting criminals in the region.
However, three days later, in a counter-protest around the police headquarters in Awka, another group from the community accused Nweke of land stealing, intimidation, harassment, and rape.
“We arrested him to face prosecution,” he explained. Nweke and his company’s operatives have been charged in three separate instances, one at the Federal High Court and two at the State High Court.
“He has two cases pending before the Federal High Court and one before the Magistrates’ Court.” As a result, we arrested him in order for him to address his charges.
“These are the background details to his current media campaign of blackmail against DCP Akin Fakorede and the State CID, Awka whom he is accusing of corruption ostensibly for not siding with his criminal escapades.”
