Anglican bishop seeks partnership with EFCC.

The Bishop of the Anglican Communion Diocese of Makurdi, Rt. Revd. Nathan Inyom, has extended a hand of cooperation to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to jointly combat corruption within the Church and the nation as a whole.

Bishop Inyom conveyed his willingness to collaborate during a visit to the Makurdi Zonal Command of the EFCC. In a statement released by the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, the Bishop expressed his concerns regarding the management of church resources and emphasized the need for vigilance.

“We are here to interact with you, seeking ways of collaboration in terms of trying to understand the workings of the Commission better. How it can relate with the church, especially in terms of handling issues of sharp practices that result in malpractices and misappropriation,” stated Bishop Inyom.

He candidly addressed the issue of corruption within the Church, acknowledging that it was a significant challenge. He expressed his commitment, along with the Anglican Communion, to work closely with the EFCC to address this problem.

“One of my greatest frustrations in ministry, as a minister of God, is that those whom we employ to assist us in overseeing resources end up defrauding the church, carting away huge sums of money meant for the development of the Church,” the Bishop lamented.

Bishop Nathan stressed the profound respect that Anglicans hold for the EFCC’s vital role in preserving the nation’s financial integrity. He urged the EFCC to intensify efforts to raise public awareness about the growing menace of economic and financial crimes.

The Zonal Commander of ACE 1, Friday Ebelo, expressed gratitude to the Bishop for his visit and sought the clergy’s advice and prayers to combat corruption and economic crimes effectively in the country. The collaboration between the Anglican Communion and the EFCC holds promise in the ongoing fight against corruption in Nigeria.
