Niger Delta activist Annkio Briggs has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State. The move, which led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and key officials for six months, has sparked controversy.
Briggs accused the President of imposing on Rivers people what he once rejected as Governor of Lagos under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. She also faulted Tinubu’s handling of the crisis, arguing that he was treating the situation as if there were two governors in the state.
She further pointed out that political divisions, including a faction of the House of Assembly, had deepened the crisis, making it difficult for the elected governor to govern effectively.
