Just days after a major explosion on the Trans Niger Pipeline in Bodo, another blast has hit the Soku oil facility in Rivers State. The incident, confirmed by the Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria), has raised fresh concerns about the security of oil infrastructure in the region.
According to YEAC-Nigeria, the explosion, which occurred early Sunday, sent fireballs into the sky, but the exact cause remains unknown. Possible reasons being considered include equipment failure, sabotage, or an attack. This marks the third such explosion in Rivers State within a week, adding to fears of growing instability.
Following recent oil facility attacks, President Bola Tinubu declared a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State and suspended the governor. YEAC-Nigeria is now calling for an urgent investigation to uncover the cause of the Soku explosion and hold those responsible accountable.
