Two-time world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua met with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Wednesday. During the visit, Joshua presented Tinubu with an autographed boxing glove as a gesture of respect, according to the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada.
Separately, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun announced that Joshua would be the torchbearer for the 2024 National Sports Festival. The governor also revealed plans to construct a new indoor boxing ring in Abeokuta, named after Joshua, and offered him a residence in Sagamu to encourage frequent visits and promote sports development in the state.
Governor Abiodun expressed pride in Joshua’s global achievements and urged collaboration to organize a boxing championship in Ogun State, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting his career and fostering a strong sports culture.
