Tolu Bankole, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and member of the National Working Committee, extended his congratulations to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun following the election petitions tribunal’s validation of Abiodun’s victory in the March 18 governorship election.
The tribunal upheld Governor Abiodun’s victory as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In delivering the lengthy judgment, Chairman of the Tribunal, Hamidu Kunaza, stated that the petitioner, Ladipupo Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, and his party, failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove their case.
Adebutu had sought the quashing of Abiodun’s victory, alleging non-compliance with the Electoral Act of 2022, corrupt practices, and a lack of qualification to contest the 2023 governorship election in the state.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Bankole celebrated the tribunal’s decision as a reaffirmation of the people’s mandate to continue Governor Abiodun’s “Igbega Ipinle Ogun” agenda until 2027. He called for unity among the governor’s critics and opposition members, urging them to collaborate in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Ogun State.
Bankole emphasized the importance of accepting the tribunal verdict in good faith and prioritizing the progress and development of Ogun State above personal vendettas or ambitions. He called on all stakeholders to work together for the state’s prosperity and to avoid divisive politics or comments that could hinder progress.
The APC chieftain’s message encouraged a spirit of unity and cooperation for the betterment of Ogun State, emphasizing the collective vision for a prosperous future under Governor Abiodun’s leadership.
