In a decisive move on Tuesday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the rumored merger between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi. The ruling party labeled both politicians as desperate and untrustworthy.
APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, stated that the meeting between Atiku and Obi, which took place behind closed doors at Atiku’s Abuja residence, is driven by a shared desperation to prevent President Bola Tinubu from securing re-election in 2027. Morka emphasized that any coalition between the two would amount to nothing.
Photographs of Atiku and Obi’s meeting, as well as Obi’s meetings with PDP chieftains Bukola Saraki and Sule Lamido, fueled speculation of a potential alliance. However, Morka questioned the feasibility of such an alliance, given the political histories of both men.
“Atiku and Obi’s restless drift in search of convenient party platforms only highlights their opportunistic aspirations,” Morka said. He asserted that neither politician could be trusted with national leadership, citing their inability to manage their own parties effectively.
APC urged Nigerians to continue supporting President Tinubu’s efforts to transform the nation. The party expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and dismissed the opposition’s plans as futile.
