The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially sworn in members of the new caretaker committee, marking the replacement of the dissolved Rivers State chapter of the party. The inauguration, held at the national headquarters of the APC in Abuja, featured key party figures, including National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje and Vice Chairman for South-South Victor Giadom.
The decision to dissolve the former state executives was announced two days prior by the APC NWC, signaling the creation of an ad hoc committee tasked with overseeing a congress for the election of new state executive members. The dissolution, conveyed by National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, aimed to pave the way for the caretaker committee to take charge.
The newly inaugurated caretaker committee includes Chief Tony Okocha as Chairman and Eric Nwibani as Secretary. Other members are Chibuike Ikenga, Prince Stephen Abolo, Silvester Vidin, Senibo Karibi Dan-Jumbo, and Miss Darling Amadi.
During the oath-taking ceremony, Ganduje emphasized the challenging nature of the task ahead for the caretaker committee. He called on them to focus on reconciling factions within the party and reaching out to members who had left, setting the stage for a united front. The APC national chairman stressed the importance of utilizing the six-month duration to establish a conducive environment for the upcoming congress, which will determine new leadership at various levels.
The inauguration marks a significant step in the party’s efforts to address internal issues and foster unity within the Rivers State chapter. The caretaker committee is expected to play a crucial role in facilitating reconciliation and ensuring a smooth and transparent congress process.
