APC Founding Member Warns Against Planned Indefinite Strike

Osita Okechukwu, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has warned Organised Labour about the dangers of their planned indefinite strike starting Monday, June 3. He emphasized that the strike could destabilize Nigeria’s economy and harm its democracy.

Okechukwu suggested an alternative to the proposed ₦60,000 minimum wage: implementing a housing ownership scheme for workers. He argued that home ownership could provide stability and boost productivity, as rent consumes a significant portion of workers’ income.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize a nationwide housing initiative, leveraging workers’ contributions to the National Housing Fund, supplemented by federal, state, and private sector support.

Okechukwu concluded by urging labour leaders to reconsider the strike and focus on dialogue and housing solutions to improve living conditions sustainably.
