Yekini Nabena, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has refuted recent viral reports suggesting that Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum, and David Lyon, a former APC governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, are working against the APC’s gubernatorial candidate in Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva.
The reports had alleged that Lokpobiri and Lyon were secretly supporting Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the run-up to the November 11 gubernatorial election.
In a statement issued on Monday, Nabena firmly stated, “Our attention has been drawn to a sponsored propaganda in some quarters suggesting cracks in the solid camp of the Bayelsa APC ahead of the November 11 governorship election in the state.”
Nabena further added, “We will not be distracted because we are fully aware of how desperate the incumbent Governor, Douye Diri, has become. Therefore, he is employing all manner of tactics, including propaganda and lies, just to cause confusion. But sadly for the PDP, it is just too late because Bayelsans have made up their minds to sack an under-developer of an oil-rich state.”
To provide clarification, Nabena highlighted that recent pictures substantiate that Senator Heineken Lokpobiri and the 2019 governorship candidate, David Lyon, had a strategic meeting with the APC’s gubernatorial candidate in the presence of the National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. During this meeting, all participants reaffirmed their commitment to the party’s objectives and extensive mobilization efforts.
Nabena extended his sympathy to Governor Diri and his camp, emphasizing that their actions were coming too late in light of the impending electoral outcome. He urged all APC members, supporters, and Bayelsans in general to remain calm and anticipate a resounding victory while dismissing any claims of internal discord within the party as baseless propaganda.
