The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is gearing up to hold a mini convention next month (August) to elect replacements for key national officers. The recent resignations of National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu and Secretary Iyiola Omisore, along with other officers securing different appointments or passing away, have created vacancies that need to be filled.
Acting National Chairman, Abubakar Kyari, is being considered for a ministerial position, prompting the urgency to organize the mini-convention within one month to ensure seamless leadership transition. The party’s accounts were frozen during the leadership crisis, and the national leadership believes that having a substantive leadership through the convention will help in unfreezing the accounts.
Although the specific names for potential replacements and zoning arrangements remain undisclosed, the party is actively consulting with relevant stakeholders and engaging in networking to identify suitable candidates for the vacant positions.
In the wake of the former national chairman’s resignation, anxiety looms among directors and personal staff hired during his tenure regarding their job security. Some directors have taken temporary leave to monitor the situation, while others are already evacuating their personal belongings to avoid potential complications.
