APC south east consults prominent Igbo leaders, meets Obi of Onitsha

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, or APC, in the South East have begun meetings with major Igbo leaders in order to gain ground in the region.

Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, the party’s South East National Vice Chairman, led the party’s Zonal Organizing Secretary, Dozie Ikedife, a former senator representing Anambra North, Chief Emma Anosike, and the Vice Chairman of the Anambra APC, Emma Ekwuaju, on a courtesy visit to Onitsha’s Obi, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, at his palace on Thursday.

The APC leaders described the king as a man of good traits, saying the visit is based on the people’s admiration for him and the role he performs in leading them correctly.

Arodiogbu, who addressed the monarch on behalf of the leaders, stated that, despite the Igbo’s seeming disdain of the party, supporting the APC was the most reliable method to connect with the centre and reap the benefits of democracy.

He guaranteed that the party holds high regard for the historic institution.

He stated, “In my consultation into Igbo land to make the APC an acceptable party in the South East, we must consult the likes of Igwe Achebe, given the strategic importance of his throne, and the good people of Onitsha.”

“We have come here to link ourselves with one of the finest rulers in Igbo country, and given the pedigree displayed by the Obi of Onitsha, we are confident that Igwe Achebe possesses several unique traits. Men like us always want to associate with others who have these qualities.

“I must say that I am impressed with the Obi of Onitsha’s intelligence and background knowledge on many Nigerian topics, particularly in the areas of economy and security.

“Igwe, let me state that the APC under my watch will always respect and consider traditional rulers as important storehouses of wisdom and would regularly seek out such priceless counsel at all given times.”

Achebe, who welcomed the party officials, thanked Arodiogbu and his team for their visit and wished them success in their consultations.
