Atiku Criticizes Rejection of Six-Year Term Proposal

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has voiced disappointment over the House of Representatives’ recent decision to reject a bill proposing a six-year term for Nigerian presidents and governors. Atiku, who was the 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described the lawmakers’ move as unfortunate, emphasizing that they failed to recognize Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

Atiku argued that a six-year term could offer leaders more stability and time to focus on significant reforms, which he believes are needed to address the nation’s current state. He called on lawmakers to consider solutions that prioritize Nigeria’s future and stability over short-term political interests.
