Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the sexual harassment allegation made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Atiku, in a statement on Friday, emphasized that how the case is handled will reflect Nigeria’s stance on justice, accountability, and women’s inclusion in governance.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, during a live interview, alleged that she rejected Akpabio’s advances and subsequently faced harassment in the Senate. Atiku stressed that such claims must not be ignored or dismissed, urging President Bola Tinubu and the Senate to ensure an impartial and independent investigation into the matter.
Describing the Senate as the voice of the people, Atiku insisted that those in leadership must uphold integrity and respect. He warned that dismissing the allegations would undermine Nigeria’s progress, especially in protecting women’s rights and fostering a just political system.
