In a tragic incident, suspected bandits launched a deadly attack on the Soro community in Binji Local Government Area of Sokoto State, resulting in the loss of three lives and several injuries. The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the attack, which occurred on Monday.
According to ASP Ahmad Rufai, the state police Public Relations Officer, armed gunmen believed to be bandits carried out the assault on the Soro community. In a swift response, law enforcement personnel from the command, with the support of military operatives, successfully repelled the attack. However, in an act of frustration, the assailants set several houses ablaze, leading to the tragic loss of three lives and causing various degrees of injuries to several residents.
Tragically, several individuals were also reported as abducted during the attack. According to local sources, eight people, primarily women, were kidnapped and taken away on motorcycles by the bandits.
The incident appears to be linked to a reprisal attack by vigilante groups on a Fulani community, as reported by some community members. This situation prompted the intervention of the Sokoto State Police Commissioner, Ali Kaigama, who initiated a dialogue among the affected areas’ residents in an attempt to ease tensions and restore peace.
The attack and abductions have heightened concerns about security in Sokoto State, with residents hoping for swift action by law enforcement agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safety of the abducted individuals.
