Bandits who murdered Dr. Tiri Gyan David, a senior lecturer, have demanded a ₦300 million ransom from his widow for the release of their two abducted children. Dr. David, Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension, and Rural Development at Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), was killed last week in Katsina State.
The attack occurred early Tuesday at Dr. David’s residence in Yarima Quarters, Dutsinma Local Government Area. A family friend reported that the bandits contacted the widow on Sunday, demanding the hefty ransom. Dr. David’s younger brother answered the call, during which the widow expressed her inability to pay, stating, “I’m a widow and not a working-class type, how do you expect me to raise that kind of ransom?”
The bandits, upon hearing her voice, confirmed the abduction and then abruptly ended the call, switching off their phone to cut off further communication.
