The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has declared its unity and determination to secure victory in the upcoming November 11 governorship election. In a statement by the state publicity secretary, Tamaratare Zuokumor, the APC stated its commitment to winning the election and asked Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prepare his handover notes.
The party emphasized that it is working cohesively to ensure a resounding victory for its governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva. Zuokumor added that the APC’s stakeholders are more united ahead of this election than they were in 2019 when the party defeated Diri.
Zuokumor clarified that the Sylva/MacIver ticket is the common cause for Bayelsans seeking the state’s liberation, irrespective of party affiliations. He dismissed Governor Diri’s recent complimentary remarks about Sylva as an attempt to portray Sylva as an enemy of both the APC and PDP.
The APC asserted its strength and unity, stating that its impressive support base, leadership, and stakeholders are fully committed to the Sylva/Maciver ticket. The party also claimed that thousands of PDP members with a conscience have chosen the state’s interests over politics and are supporting the APC’s cause.
Furthermore, the APC warned Governor Diri against making further patronizing statements about the party and emphasized that his attempts at division would not succeed. The party expressed confidence in winning the election in a landslide, even in Diri’s local government area, Kolokuma-Opokuma, where it claimed the governor has been rejected by the people.
The statement concluded with a declaration that the APC will restore the image of Bayelsa State, and the party will emerge victorious on November 11.
