Bill Gates, Co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has shared why Nigeria receives the largest portion of the foundation’s intervention funds in Africa. During the 2024 NutriVision Dialogue in Abuja, Gates explained that Nigeria’s large population and significant needs make it a priority for the foundation’s investments. He noted that the foundation has already invested billions in the country, particularly in health initiatives aimed at reducing child mortality and combating diseases like measles, malaria, and polio.
Gates emphasized that primary healthcare is a top priority for the foundation due to its high impact on improving health outcomes. He also highlighted the importance of agricultural productivity to Nigeria’s economic development. According to Gates, providing farmers with access to high-yield, climate-resistant seeds, fertilizers, and better weather predictions is crucial for boosting the country’s agricultural sector.
