Tension grips the boardroom of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) as conflicting reports emerge regarding the dismissal of the company’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Tinuade Sanda.
The controversy ensued following the purported appointment of Mrs. Rekhiat Momoh as Sanda’s replacement, effective Tuesday, as confirmed by the EKEDC.
The dismissal of Sanda, communicated via a letter signed by EKEDC Chairman Dere Otubu on March 25, cited a directive from the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as the reason for her termination. The directive allegedly mandated the release of all seconded staff from WPG Ltd, Sanda’s employer, back to WPG Ltd.
However, Director and Chairman of the Legal & Regulatory Committee, Mr. Babor Egeregor, refuted Otubu’s claims, stating that NERC’s directives did not include the removal of staff, except those linked to alleged fraud and negligence.
Egeregore accused Otubu of acting in bad faith and seeking revenge against Sanda for exposing alleged fraudulent activities within the company. He emphasized that Sanda’s leadership had significantly improved EKEDC’s performance.
Meanwhile, amidst the turmoil, the EKEDC spokesperson, Babatunde Lasaki, clarified that Sanda was not sacked but merely asked to step aside temporarily for a structural management realignment. Momoh’s appointment, he explained, aimed to prevent a leadership vacuum.
The NERC has pledged to respond officially to the ongoing crisis at Eko Disco, as stakeholders await further developments in this unfolding saga.
