Suspected Boko Haram terrorists riding camels ambushed and beheaded 11 local wood-loggers.
The killing occurred in Borno State’s Damboa Local Government Area.
The event occurred on Monday near Bale, a distant village in Damboa LGA, according to a trustworthy source who works as a member of the vigilante group in the region and provided reporters with the information over the phone.
According to a local vigilante source, the victims’ mutilated bodies were discovered at the area about 5 p.m.
According to another vigilante group member, “the loggers were working at their charcoal site when they were suddenly rounded up by the terrorists who refused all pleas for mercy from their victims but went ahead and killed the six persons instantly.”
“We learned that they came on camels and surrounded the victims,” he added. We spotted the carmels’ footsteps. We counted approximately 15 carmel foot impressions.
“However, we learned that some of the lucky loggers ran as fast as they could while being pursued by Boko Haram members.”
“We also believe the others escaped because carmels are slower than horses and, more importantly, the victims are familiar with the terrain; this is why we’re hoping they do.”
“We were later informed about the situation there, so we mobilized and went to the scene, only to find the six bodies dismembered and abandoned at the site, but we haven’t heard from the other five people.”
“Another five bodies were recovered this morning, bringing the total to 11 corpses.” However, soldiers and vigilantes are currently in the region and combing the woods.”
