Popular Nigerian gospel reggae singer, Buchi Atuonwu, has shared how a strange voice in the middle of the night led him to leave cultism and follow Jesus. Speaking on the ‘BlackFlame’ podcast, Buchi said he once belonged to a cult but walked away after Jesus showed him that it was more than just secret meetings—it was a deep spiritual battle.

He recalled one night while leading songs for over 200 cult members in a bush between 1 and 2am. As he sang, he heard a voice from the left side whisper, “You don’t belong here.” At first, he was shocked and continued singing, but then he heard the voice again, louder and clearer. That moment stuck with him and marked the beginning of his journey out of cultism.

Buchi explained that cultism isn’t just something for reckless students. He said people from all ages—young and old, rich and poor—were involved. “There were 20-year-olds, 70-year-olds, even rich and poor people from different tribes,” he said. “It was serious. But Jesus opened my eyes to see the truth, and I left.”
