Former President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent comments have ignited sharp criticism from opposition parties across the country. In a speech delivered in Katsina, Buhari urged Nigerians to seek divine intervention to resolve the nation’s problems, rather than acknowledging the failures of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led governments. His remarks, made in Hausa at an APC stakeholders meeting, have quickly become a subject of debate, particularly on social media platforms.
The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) seized on Buhari’s words, calling them a clear admission of the APC’s inability to solve the country’s pressing issues. Ladipo Johnson, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, suggested that the statement exposed the current government’s lack of direction and failure to provide effective leadership. For Johnson, Buhari’s comments reveal that the administration has been fumbling its way through challenges without a clear plan, contributing to Nigeria’s ongoing economic decline.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) voiced similar concerns, with Deputy National Youth Leader Timothy Osadolor asserting that Buhari’s remark was not only an indictment of President Bola Tinubu’s leadership but also a reminder of the roots of the country’s struggles. While Osadolor acknowledged Buhari’s honesty, he pointed out that the current government’s inefficiency was simply a continuation of the failures from the previous administration. This, he believes, should be a wake-up call for all Nigerians to unite and salvage the country from further deterioration.
