Burna Boy Claims Credit for Creation of Grammy’s ‘Best African Music Performance’ Category

Afrobeats artist, Burna Boy, has suggested that his influence played a role in the creation of the new Grammy category, “Best African Music Performance.”

During a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Burna Boy expressed a sense of responsibility for the addition of this category, indicating that his impact on the global music scene contributed to its establishment.

However, while acknowledging his role, Burna Boy also pondered whether this new category would carry the same level of prestige as the existing ones within the Grammy Awards.

He stated, “I do feel somewhat responsible for the new ‘Best African Music Performance’ category, which is nice. At the same time, what is it really? Is it a consolation category? Will it hold as much prestige? I’m waiting to see.”
