CCB arrests Kano anti-graft boss, over alleged N390 million fraud

Muhuyi Magaji, the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Graft Commission, has been charged with ten counts of corruption by the Code of Conduct Bureau and brought before the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja.

Magaji was charged on Thursday, November 17. The allegations center on alleged violations of the public officer code of conduct, including taking gifts, bribery, conflict of interest, abuse of authority, and false asset declaration.

In a document that our reporter has received, the CCB stated that an inquiry revealed the Chairman neglected to declare several bank accounts that bore his name and contained N394 million, prompting suspicions of corruption.

Nonetheless, the defendant was given N5 million in bond with two sureties who owned properties in the Federal Capital Territory, and the case was postponed until January 10, 2024.
Prior to this, the media had reported that Magaji was being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Code of Conduct Bureau about his management during the tenure of former Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
With a viral video purporting to show the former governor accepting cash kickbacks from a contractor, Magaji, who was investigating the former governor of Kano State and current National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, for alleged corruption, had promised to look into the footage and prosecute Ganduje if proven guilty.

While our correspondent received a letter from the EFCC on Saturday, which instructed the PCACC’s Director of Finance and Accounts to attend an interview at the organization’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, on August 29, our correspondent also received a letter from the CCB requesting documents related to his stewardship.
The chairs of the PCACC were requested by both federal agencies to provide financial records and information regarding properties that were forfeited.

In light of the aforementioned, please release the director of finance and accounts so that they can report for an interview with the undersigned on Monday, August 29, 2023, by 10:00 a.m., at Plot 301/302 Institution and Research District Jabi, along Airport Road, Abuja, through the team leader AFF/TC.

“He ought to bring the following documentation: a breakdown of the entire amount of money the Kano State Office of the Accountant General released to your office throughout the 2019–2021 fiscal year.
