“Celebrating the Legacy of Chief MKO Abiola: President Tinubu Pays Tribute to Nigeria’s True Champion of Democracy”

President Bola Tinubu paid tribute to Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, hailing him as the genuine advocate for Nigeria’s democracy. Commemorating the 25th anniversary of Abiola’s passing, President Tinubu took to his official Twitter handle, @officialABAT, to express his sentiments.

President Tinubu acknowledged Chief MKO Abiola’s enduring legacy, despite the challenges he faced with military regimes, particularly those led by General Ibrahim Babangida and the late General Sani Abacha. He emphasized that Abiola’s message of hope remains relevant.

As a former Senator representing Lagos central senatorial district during the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election, President Tinubu tweeted, “Today, our nation honors the sacrifice and example of a true hero, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, 25 years after his sad demise.”

He further praised Chief MKO Abiola as a genuine champion of democracy, highlighting his courage, integrity, and unwavering dedication to public service, which served as an embodiment of the highest ideals of the nation.
