In a candid interview, renowned Nollywood actor Chidi Mokeme shared a surprising revelation about a past encounter with the law that landed him behind bars. The actor opened up about the incident, shedding light on the challenges faced by entertainers, particularly when moving to or from movie sets during unconventional hours.
During the discussion, Mokeme disclosed that his crew was apprehended by the police while en route to a movie set, resulting in his subsequent arrest and detention. Reflecting on the dynamics of his industry, he explained how entertainers often find themselves in challenging situations due to the nature of their work schedules.
Mokeme stated, “I had a couple of brush-ins with the law. Back then, career-wise, entertainers always have brush-ins with the law. Why? Because first, we’re always moving at very awkward times of the night. Either you’re just going to the gig or coming from the gig, but it always happens at very awkward times.”

Chidi highlighted the common challenge faced by entertainers when encountering law enforcement officers who question their activities during late hours. Explaining the predicament, Mokeme noted, “And what makes it very awkward is when they [police] ask you and you say you’re going to work. That’s the problem, ‘Which work?,’ that’s always the problem, ‘Which work?’ So you have to stop first, come down, because they’ll look at you and say ‘Which work?’ then tell you to come down and explain yourself.”
Chidi recounted an incident where he and his crew were taken into custody after being stopped with gun props in their vehicle. The police, mistaking the props for real firearms, led to a situation that resulted in their temporary detention.
Chidi Mokeme’s revelation provides a glimpse into the unique challenges faced by individuals in the entertainment industry, offering audiences a rare insight into the less glamorous aspects of a celebrity’s life.
