In a recent BBC Panorama documentary, a police watchdog defended his decision to investigate Metropolitan Police officer Martyn Blake for the shooting of Chris Kaba, a known gangster. The officer, Blake, was acquitted of murder charges.
Sal Naseem, from the Independent Office for Police Conduct, told Panorama he remained unconvinced that Kaba posed a sufficient threat to justify the use of deadly force. The Metropolitan Police has chosen not to participate in the documentary, which will air on BBC One at 8 p.m. on Monday.
Matt Cane, general secretary of the Police Federation, previously expressed concerns that Londoners might view the broadcast as a biased re-examination of the case or an attempt to “lionize” Kaba.
