A potential catastrophe was narrowly averted in the Anthony Obanikoro area of Lagos as three individuals managed to escape the clutches of death in a multi-vehicle collision on Saturday.
Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) released a statement via its verified Twitter handle @followlasma, detailing the sequence of events in the accident. The incident involved a 40-foot container, two Toyota Camry cars (bearing license plate numbers KRD 432 JA and APP 43 HN), and a sand-laden tipper truck (with registration T 17001LA).
In a coordinated rescue mission led by Lawal Babatunde of the Eagle Bravo team from Zone 11 Anthony, along with the assistance of local police in the Ilupeju area, the victims were miraculously saved from what could have been a tragic outcome.
According to preliminary findings by LASTMA, the collision was triggered by a brake failure on the 40-foot container truck, propelling it at high speed into three other vehicles, including a heavily laden tipper carrying sand.
In a segment of the statement, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, the General Manager of LASTMA, delivered a poignant reminder to all road users. He urged individuals to diligently ensure their vehicles are in optimal condition before embarking on any journey, both within and beyond the boundaries of Lagos.
During the critical rescue operations, officers from the Ilupeju Police Command joined forces with LASTMA personnel, reinforcing the spirit of unity in managing crises.
This incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of our roads and the importance of consistent vehicle maintenance. Amidst the chaos, the timely response and collaborative efforts of the rescue teams shine as beacons of hope and unity in the face of adversity.
