Commercial sex workers invade Lagos malls, lure men

Concerns are growing as young women thought to be commercial sex workers prowl around Lagos’s top malls and upscale streets in an effort to attract customers.

Reporters discovered that the skimpily dressed women frequently set up shop in prime mall areas to entice men.
Reporters who went to locations including Ikeja City Mall, Festival Mall, and Allen Avenue noticed that women who appeared to be in their 20s to 30s were prowling around the area to court potential clients.

One of the reporters was approached by no less than three separate young women wearing provocative blouses when she visited ICM about 10 p.m. on Saturday.

The fees being charged by the sex workers varied from person to person as well as other aspects like the duration and location of the venue, according to reporters who appeared to be interested.

For instance, it was discovered that, disregarding transportation charges, a quick jaunt around the neighborhood would cost N15,000, while an overnight stay at our correspondent’s preferred location would cost N30,000.

One of the women responded, “N50,000 from Friday to Sunday morning,” when asked how much it would cost for the weekend. I will travel to your location at your expense.

Similar circumstances exist in the Festival Mall in the state’s Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area.

Residents worried that the increase in the activities of the suspected call girls, who pretended to be visiting the location for shopping, could lead to severe security breaches in the neighborhood.
Precious, a local, reported that young girls regularly engaged in all types of sexual immorality at the mal

“There are times when I witness young females engaging in all kinds of behavior motivated by money, particularly on weekends. Although it can be frightening at times, there is nothing we can do about it, Precious added.

A security officer who went by the name Peter claimed that they were accustomed to seeing the women and that some of them even slept with guys in their cars.

Some of them even engage in sexual activity while driving. They will insult you and say it’s none of your business when you inquire as to why they are acting in such an unethical manner, the speaker stated.

Dan stated, “If you see what we see here, especially at night, when it is 8.30 pm or 9 pm, it is always an eyesore because you will see the way people are paired up, in twos and threes, doing all manner of things.”

Ikeja’s Allen Avenue was lined with women of all sizes and shapes who stood on either side of the street, flagging down cars entering and exiting the street and appealing to any males who passed by.

On the condition of anonymity, a man who claimed to be knowledgeable about the ladies’ activities and fees informed one of our correspondents that a quick night out during a downpour in areas close to Allen Avenue may cost as little as N5,000.

Because there are less clients during a downpour, it is a little less expensive. So, if you’re fortunate, you might be able to purchase one of them for just N5,000,” he remarked.

As of the time this story was filed, Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police public relations officer, was unavailable to comment on the security concerns brought up by the locals.
