Court Charges Man and two others for killing and dismembering neighbor

A Kwara State High Court presided over by Justice Suleiman Akanbi sentenced one Kazeem Mohammed to prison for killing and dismembering his neighbor six days before his wedding.

Kazeem and three others, Madu Jeremiah, Mohammed Chatta, and Jimoh Abdullateef, were charged with criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, unlawful possession of firearms, illegal removal of human parts, and kidnapping on an eight-count accusation.

The defendants murdered Olokose Ojo Olushola, an Ondo State resident who worked at the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Unit of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).

The police told the court that the deceased’s remains were retrieved, packaged in a sack, and put at the UITH mortuary.

“The attackers collected his ATM card and withdrew N1.2m from his bank account,” police said. They also wanted N12m in ransom from the family before they were arrested.”

The first defendant, Kazeem, who was suspected of masterminding the murder, was sentenced to death by hanging in a long verdict. The court also sentenced him to an extra 20 years in jail, in addition to a N200,000 fine and life imprisonment for kidnapping.

On two counts, the second and third defendants, Madu Jeremiah and Mohammed Chatta, were sentenced to ten years in jail and a N100,000 fine. Jeremiah was also sentenced to three years in prison and a N200,000 fine.

The fourth defendant, Jimoh Abdullateef, was released on all counts because the prosecution failed to establish the charges against him beyond a reasonable doubt.
