Abdulazeez Adegbola, popularly known as Tani Olorun, has been granted administrative bail by the Kwara Upper Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State. The presiding judge, Mr. Sunday Adeniyi, made this decision while ruling on the bail application submitted by Tani Olorun’s legal defense team. Tani Olorun was facing charges of criminal defamation and other offenses in the court.
Judge Adeniyi granted him bail with two sureties, each providing a sum of N5 million. These two sureties must meet certain criteria: they must be reliable and reside within the jurisdiction of the court. Additionally, they must show evidence of having N5 million in their respective bank accounts. One of the sureties must be a recognized community leader in Ilorin, while the other must possess a landed property with a Certificate of Occupancy, properly endorsed by the government. Furthermore, both sureties must provide evidence of having paid taxes to the government for at least the past seven years.
Tani Olorun and Chief Ademola Olawoore, known as the Oluwo Nla of Tede, were facing five counts of alleged criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, disturbance of public peace, criminal defamation of character, and intentional insult before the Upper Area Court. These charges were brought against them in accordance with sections 97, 210, 392, and 114 of the penal code law of Nigeria.
While Oluwo Nla had been granted bail the previous Wednesday, the ruling on Tani Olorun’s bail application was deferred until Monday due to opposition from the prosecution. The case is scheduled for further hearing on October 23, 2023.
