Court Orders Interim Forfeiture of Assets Linked to Ex-CBN Governor

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the interim forfeiture of $4,719,054 and N830,875,611, along with several properties connected to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele. This decision was made by Justice Yellim Bogoro following an ex-parte application by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) counsels Bilkisu Buhari and C.C. Chineye.

The funds, held in First Bank, Titan Bank, and Zenith Bank, are linked to various individuals and companies. The properties forfeited include a 94-unit building under construction in Ikoyi, Lagos, and several others in Lekki, Lagos, and other locations.

Justice Bogoro found merit in the EFCC’s application and granted the interim forfeiture order. The court instructed the publication of the order in a national newspaper, inviting any interested parties to show cause why a final forfeiture order should not be made. The case is adjourned to July 2 for a motion for final forfeiture.
