The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bako Angbashim, who oversaw the Ahoada Police Division in the Ahoada-East local government area of Rivers State, was assassinated by suspected cultists on Friday night.
Prior to his reassignment to Ahoada-East, Superintendent of Police Angbasim was the DPO in command of the Bori Police Division. This was done to help reduce the escalating insecurity brought on by cult group activities in both the state’s Ahoada-East and Ahoada-West local government areas.
According to reports, the senior police officer who was killed died during a shootout between police officers and suspected cult members at their camp in the Odeimude hamlet of Ahoada-East local government region.

One of the dead DPO’s informants was hurt during the shootout, according to a statement made by the police public relations officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, which was released on Saturday morning. He is presently receiving medical care.
Iringe-Koko stated: “During a mission to stop criminal activity in the Odumude neighborhood of Ahoada East Local Government Area in Rivers State on the evening of September 9, 2023, SP Bako Angbashim, the DPO of Ahoda Division, displayed outstanding bravery.
