Customs Service Seeks FCT Land for Schools, Minister Provides Assurance

Abuja, [Current Date] – The Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, held a meeting on Thursday with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesome Wike, to request the allocation of land within the FCT for the construction of schools. This development was confirmed in a statement issued by Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service.

During the meeting, Adeniyi congratulated Minister Wike on his appointment and stressed the significance of the Federal Capital Territory in the context of the nation’s development. He noted that the FCT occupies a central role in Nigeria and that success in the FCT would contribute to success on a national scale.

Adeniyi underscored the importance of transparent and integrity-driven policies and expressed the need for supportive policies to assist the Nigeria Customs Service in fulfilling its responsibilities in the FCT, considering the substantial presence of over 2,500 service personnel in Abuja.

One of the prominent challenges discussed during the meeting was the issue of customs personnel sending their children to private schools in the city due to a lack of adequate educational facilities.

To address this concern, Adeniyi made a compassionate appeal to Minister Wike for the allocation of land to facilitate the construction of primary and secondary schools specifically for the children of customs personnel in Abuja.

In response, Minister Wike assured the Acting Comptroller General of his commitment to allocate land for the construction of facilities that will meet the Nigeria Customs Service’s educational requirements. He also pledged his unwavering support to make his tenure a successful one.

Wike mentioned that his ministry had received the Nigeria Customs Service’s request for land allocation, and he assured that it would be approved in due course. He acknowledged the revenue-generating objectives of both his ministry and the Nigeria Customs Service but highlighted the service’s commendable intention to establish schools for quality education. As such, Wike expressed the readiness to approve the service’s request to support this educational initiative.
